British Airways Club World July 2017

SFO to LHR

The British Airways lounge at San Francisco International Airport is through a door and down one floor – a bit mysterious really but we received a warm welcome when we found it. As usual, I had made my family arrive ridiculously early at the airport but this did enable us to make the most of the  lounge and relax before the flight. As one of the first arrivals, I was able to photograph the sandwiches and snacks without feeling too silly. The lounge did get quite full before the flight but the staff replenished the snacks at regular intervals and it was really interesting when our plane arrived and we could watch the unloading and loading of lots of cargo and catering equipment.

When the flight was called, we realised that we were boarding more or less straight from the lounge which was really convenient.

After our welcome glass of fizz, we settled into our seats. As on the outward journey, I was amazed that the 11 hour flight could pass fairly quickly. It’s always good to catch up with a few films and I confess that one of my favourite channels on the inflight entertainment system is the 3D map!

The cabin crew were friendly and efficient and dinner was really good. It is only possible to preorder main courses when flying from Heathrow but my first choices were available for each course.

Santa Barbara smoked salmon with tartare sauce

Roasted organic breast of chicken with Romanesco, dauphinoise potato, caramelised carrots and a red wine jus
Key lime pie with mascarpone cream

After dinner the lights were dimmed and I did manage to sleep for about 3 hours. The flat bed is quite comfortable, considering you are on a plane and if you do wake up now and again you can always visit the Club Kitchen for an extra drink or snack.

A full breakfast was served before we landed and again, the quality was very good.

Fresh fruit and croissant

I enjoy travelling Club World very much (who wouldn’t?) and I’m excited that several improvements are to be introduced from this Autumn, starting with the LHR to JFK route. Highlights include new, more luxurious bedding and amenity kits in partnership with the White Company and a new restaurant-style premium dining service. Display trolleys will enable passengers to see all of the starters and desserts available and they will be presented on beautiful new table settings.

It’s definitely time to save up for some more flights!
