I have always enjoyed watching Frasier and would love to have a “Café Nervosa” around the corner from where I work or live where I could indulge in long catch-ups with friends or colleagues without feeling rushed or under pressure to leave my table. Well, Cake Stories on Brentwood Avenue could be just that place if I lived a bit closer.
The welcome is warm and the choice of cakes poses a real dilemma as so many look delicious. If you really can’t decide, you can have one put into a little box to take away and try later. Red Velvet is my favourite at the moment, but I also like the Salted Caramel. Decisions, decisions! I love the fact that they bake special cakes to go with special events, such as the Half Marathon cake to support the Great North Run and themed cakes for Wimbledon, Easter etc. A café that offers Rainbow Space Unicorn cake is clearly a place where people enjoy their job.
One of my favourite things about Cake Stories is that it’s open well into the evening (9.30 in the summer). Meeting friends at about 6pm for coffee and cake is a great way to relax and enjoy the evening. I wish more places did this.
Parking can be a bit tricky and there are some restrictions during the day but this “coffee shop and cakery” is just a two minute walk from West Jesmond metro station.
Cake Stories is great to follow on Instagram, if you like to see photos of imaginative, exquisite birthday and wedding cakes. I have realised that this must sound as if I work there as my recommendation is quite gushing! I really don’t work there, I just really like to go there.
You should pay Cake Stories a visit, but don’t tell too many people about it……
